The Wall Street Journal carries the legal notices for the Drug Enforcement Agency’s posting of seized property. Today’s list is nearly two full pages in that very small type. Lots of states were represented. So much currency, and so many firearms. Jewelry, money orders, and Garmin, too, seem to be purchases of choice. BMWs and Mercedes are everywhere on the list, but a 2008 Toyota Prius,too? The DEA has been very busy on our behalf. It would be an interesting followup story to see how many of the owners of the property on this list today file a petition for return, or mitigation of the forfeiture, and which property they seek returned. A Toyota Prius is hard to get right now.
